At ILWF (Indian Legal Welfare Foundation), we are dedicated to advocating for the welfare, social justice, and human rights of transgender and third-gender communities. We believe in creating an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of their gender identity, can thrive with dignity and respect.
To support the transgender and third-gender communities, ILWF has launched key initiatives aimed at their holistic development:
We have established safe housing for transgender individuals at Sabita Indra Reddy Colony, Jalpally, Hyderabad. These homes provide a nurturing environment for those who need shelter, care, and companionship.
Our mission is to empower the community by offering education, vocational training, and skill-building programs. We aim to help them transition into mainstream society by equipping them with the tools to succeed in various careers.
Recognizing the importance of physical well-being and teamwork, ILWF encourages participation in sports and recreational activities. These programs foster a sense of belonging and boost self-confidence.
Transgender and third-gender individuals have a long history of contributing to society. From serving in the royal courts during the time of the Raja Maharajas to playing significant roles in palace administration, they have always shown dedication and integrity. However, post-independence, the community has faced severe challenges, including social marginalization, lack of employment, and poor healthcare, which forced many to rely on begging for survival.
In a landmark decision, the Government of India recognized the rights of transgender and third-gender communities through the *Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act* in 2019. This act, passed by the Ministry of Law and Justice, guarantees legal protections, safeguards their rights, and ensures equal opportunities in employment, education, and healthcare across the nation.
ILWF is committed to helping transgender and third-gender individuals reclaim their rightful place in society. By providing access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, we strive to uplift them and pave the way for a more inclusive and just world.
